What's Up With the Fish?   <><

If you've come to this page, then the curiosity bug has bitten you and you want to learn more about this "fish" on my site. Well, the fish is actually called an "Icthus," which is a symbol Christians use to profess their faith.

I am a born-again Christian, which means I realized I am a sinner and needed Jesus in my life to bridge the gap (that sin has caused) between God and myself. Through my beads, I hope to further God's kingdom by spreading His great news about His son, Jesus, and how He gave His life for me so that I may spend eternity with Him. :)

The Good News!

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." (John 3:16 NIV)

God also wants a relationship with you! He loves you very much, but it's sin that keeps us apart.

"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." (Romans 3:23 NIV)

The penalty for sin is death.

"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans 6:23 NIV)

The only way to "bridge" this gap and go to Heaven is to have Jesus in your life! Jesus even said:

"I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." (John 14:6 NIV)

If you want to have Jesus in your life you can do it right now through faith in prayer! Tell God that you know you are a sinner and that you want to repent from those sins. Tell Him that you believe He sent Jesus to die on the cross for your sins and was was then raised from the dead! Ask Jesus to come into your life as your personal Lord and Savior! Amen!

You don't have to worry about saying the exact words I mentioned above since it's the sincerity of the heart that counts. :)

A Brief History of the Icthus

Many people refer to this symbol as the "Christian Fish". As I mentioned above, this symbol is used by other Christians to show their devotion to Christ.

During earlier times, the icthus was used as an identifying mark for Christians. It was sort of a secret "code" among fellow Christians since they could be killed for their faith by non-believers. It is believed that when a member of the faith would encounter another, they would draw an arc in the ground. If the other person was also a Christian, they could complete the symbol.

The early Christian community adopted the fish as their symbol as a sign of their faith since the Bible refers to fish and fisherman quite often.

"Come, follow me and I will make you fishers of men." (Matthew 4:19 NIV)

The icthus symbolizes the fact that we, as Christians, are called to be "fishers of men". In other words, we have a responsibility to witness (share the good news) to others about the love of Christ.

The word "Icthus" is Greek for fish, and it's also an acronym for Jesus Christ God's Son Savior.
